The light and laser technology developed by them is used in medical and cosmetic procedures, to treat vascular and pigmented lesions, psoriasis, vitiligo and acne. In the cosmetic industry their technology is used for hair removal, skin rejuvenation and fat reduction.

Chromogenex began in 1986 with a small group of innovative professionals. Since then, the company has flourished into a leader in the field of laser and light-based technologies through research and product development. The first Chromogenex product was released in 1990. In 1998, Chromogenex became the first company to obtain United States Food and Drug Administration approval for wrinkle reduction treatment. In the early 2000s, they designed technologies called Smartlite and i-Lipo. As recently as 2010, Chromogenex developed and launched the first non-invasive 3D facelift system in the UK, called the Fusion 3D.
